How conflict of interest opens the doors to corruption

Conflict of interest occurs when an individual or organization has competing interests or loyalties that could compromise their ability to act impartially or in the best interest of stakeholders. By allowing oneself to be in such a position of conflict of interest, it shows that oneself is open to more unethical and dishonest behaviors, essentially inviting corruption from bad actors. A clear situation of conflict of interest is a big red flag of potential corruption in the private and public sectors, and further erodes trust and credibility, and can create an ingrained culture in which corruption is normalized and accepted as part of the status quo. We must never accept conflicts of interest and corruption, and we must always demand transparency, and ethical and honest behaviors.
Corruption undermines everything good.
